Art by R. Hurst
As Statement: “Art should evoke questions for the viewer to answer, ...or evoke a story. The artist’s intent is, for the viewer, not always obvious or important but is necessary for successful art. Putting a title to a work provides a hint as to the artist’s intent and may be used to affect (manipulate) a specific response from the viewer”. As Entertainment: “Art should be entertaining while provocative. Art that repulses may not even be art". As Decoration: “If art is not aesthetically appealing it will ultimately end up in the attic, the celler, or the garbage”.
Is Political: “Art can effect a change in consciousness and therefore can be political".
I want my Art to
- evoke questions.... have ambiguity.
- evoke a story .... my story may not be the viewer’s story.
- entertain .... evoke smiles, emotions and be perceived as worth indulgement.
- have aesthetic appeal .... beautiful pictures of ugly stuff is better that ugly pictures.
